Google Expeditions

     As we approach Summer vacation and take some time off before we return to work, we can all look forward to some of the latest and greatest ed tech resources to use with our students. One tool that looks particularly powerful is Google's latest app called Expeditions. What makes Expeditions different from Google's Cultural Institute or Maps Street View is the inclusion of Google Cardboard (which we discussed in an earlier blog post). Teachers can synchronize three-dimensional 360 degree panoramic images to each student's Cardboard viewer. That means by pausing the virtual field trip and pointing out key areas, teachers can minimize student distractions and progress through their lesson plans. 

     Expeditions can engage and immerse students in experiences that go far beyond what they can see on a laptop or textbook. The best part of Expeditions is that it does not require a broad band connection because the kit includes a built in router. The router allows Expeditions to run on its own to so students in even the most remote parts of the world can visit anywhere outside of their own communities.
